The Access Card’s Creator & Managing Director received the honour for his outstanding contribution to services to Accessibility in the Tourism & Entertainment Sectors
The Access Card Team was very proud to see our Managing Director, Martin Austin, honoured with an MBE today for his services to Accessibility in the Tourism & Entertainment Sectors.
Long overdue, the ceremony, originally scheduled for April 2020, just as the world went into lockdown, signified the outstanding contribution that Martin has made to the lives of disabled people, and the support given to the industries mentioned. This was delivered through his work with Nimbus Disability, the organisation he founded in 2006 which later went on to create the now internationally recognised Access Card Scheme. An MBE, or Member of the Order of the British Empire award, is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service.
The Investiture ceremony was held today in the Grounds of Windsor Castle and Martin was presented his Medal by the Prince of Wales; Prince Charles.
Martin joined scores of others recognised for their various contributions, including Maureen Lipman, who was made Dame Commander for her services to Charity, to Entertainment and to the Arts, at the same ceremony.
“This recognition is a massive honour but I really strongly feel it’s a recognition of the work, not the man; and the work is done by a team of volunteers, staff, directors, amazing networks and partner organisations and, most importantly of all; our Access Card holders who spread the word on a daily basis…
“Together we can continue to develop the scheme and increase and facilitate opportunities for disabled people to have easy access to all kinds of events and attractions in the UK and beyond”Martin Austin MBE
