Buckingham Palace is recognised around the world as the focus of national and royal celebrations as well as the backdrop to the regular Changing the Guard ceremony. Explore the magnificent State Rooms which are open to visitors for 10 weeks each summer and on selected dates during winter and spring.

Access Card Notes

We offer a concession ticket and complimentary access companion ticket for disabled visitors. No proof of disability or need is required. For D/deaf and hard of hearing visitors a BSL video tour is available to borrow. Blind & partially-sighted visitors can take a descriptive audio guide. We are fully wheelchair accessible and assistance dogs are welcome.

During the summer it can get very busy. Any visitors who have difficult standing or queuing should speak to a member of staff in the Admission area who will aim to provide seating or offer fast-track admission where possible. Seating is always available upon request.

Wheelchairs

Manual wheelchairs are available to borrow, free of charge, subject to availability, for the duration of a visit. They must be pre-booked by contacting the Specialist Sales team +44 (0)303 123 7324 or specialistsales@royalcollection.org.uk.

You can use your own wheelchair provided it's compatible with the lifts inside Buckingham Palace. The lifts measure 148cm in depth by 94 cm in width with a weight limit of 500kg; and 160cm in depth by 94cm in width with a weight limit of 750kg.

Mobility scooters

Mobility scooters and powered wheelchairs are welcome and can be used in the Quadrangle and the Garden, and are permitted inside the Palace providing they are compatible with the lifts. The lifts measure 148cm in depth by 94 cm in width with a weight limit of 500kg; and 160cm in depth by 94cm in width with a weight limit of 750kg. If you have a Class 3 vehicle you will be asked to set the speed limiter to 4mph. Manual wheelchairs are available for transfer if required.

Rollators

Rollators (wheeled walkers) are available to borrow, free of charge, subject to availability, for the duration of a visit. They must be pre-booked by contacting the Specialist Sales team +44 (0)303 123 7324 or specialistsales@royalcollection.org.uk. Folding stools are also available to borrow; these are issued on a first come first served basis and are not available to book in advance, please ask a member of staff on the day of your visit.

Short Distances

Long distances have to be covered. There is seating half-way round in the Ballroom. Please note there is a quarter of a mile walk out through the garden.

Accessible toilets are located at the start of the Access Route inside the Palace. Additional, accessible toilets are available at the end of the visit, in the Garden.
